The sculptures, coins of the Sultanate and the Mughal Periods, temples, mosques of the mediaeval and late mediaeval episode reveals that the antique province of Kamrup played a function in the expansion of the current province of CoochBehar region in West Bengal.Coochbehar is

redolent of the Koch maharajas who had reigned over the self-governing state for more than 400 years. Even Bhutan came under their regulation for a little time. The autonomous state became a region of self-governing India in 1949.
The major magnetism in Cooch Behar is however, the Palace of Koch king Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. Idealized from the concept of classical European style of Italian Renaissance, this magnificent palace was built by the Maharaja in 1887.

Cooch Behar is headquarters of the North Bengal State Transport Corporation which runs regular bus service to various places in West Bengal, Assam and Bihar. Private buses are also in usage.
Air
At present the nearest airport is in Bagdogra near Siliguri, located at an approximate distance of 160 km from Cooch Behar. Indian Airlines, Jet Airways and Air Deccan are the three major carriers that connect the area to Delhi, Kolkata and Guwahati.

Places of Interest:
Cooch Behar is a terrain of religious temples. The mainly remarkable amongst these is the Modan Mohan temple: positioned in the heart of the Cooch Behar town, the popular temple was constructed by Maharaja Nripendra Narayan during 1885 to 1889. The deities comprise Lord Madan Mohan, Ma Kali, Ma Tara and Ma Bhavani. On the juncture of Raas Puja the conventional Raas Jatra celebration together with with Rass Mela is held in Cooch Behar which the leading festivals of North Bengal.

Rajbari
Among the visitor attractions in Cooch Behar, what hits first in our mind is the Rajbari or the palace of the Kings and the adjacent imperial buildings as well as the continual magnificent details & stories. In fact, being owned by the Raj monarchy it captures the departed magnificent in the moods of neighboring populace still at the present time.

Gosanimari Temple, near Dinhata, built in the 17th century by then Koch Maharaja but reminiscent of khyen dynasty.
